From a wire story about proposed legislation in California to grant gay couples equal marriage rights:

Sen. Tom McClintock, a Republican, agreed that gay couples should be entitled to certain rights but not the right to marry.

"Can't you see that marriage is a fundamentally different institution?" he said. "Marriage is the institution by which we propagate our species and inculcate our young." (Source: AP)

Although I'm quite fond of my marriage, Senator, it isn't technically my marriage by which I propagate the species. As a species, I think it's actually quite important that we get this straight.
